Our vision is to raise the standard of education for all children, so that they can achieve their full potential and can be active participants in a culturally diverse society. We believe in encouraging positive working relationships amongst our staff, children, parents and members of the wider school community.

Welcome to The Sherwood School

We hope that you and your child will enjoy the time that s/he spends as part of our school community. In this school we aim to have an atmosphere of trust and happiness where your child will feel secure and cared for.

At The Sherwood School, in partnership with parents, the Governing Body and the Local Education Authority, we attempt to help all children to develop their abilities as individuals to the full, assuring intellectual growth in the present and preparation for the future.

We strive to create a friendly, secure, child orientated environment where pupils are motivated to be creative, curious and confident, ready to co-operate with and care for others in a responsible way.

History of the School

The school opened as a nursery in temporary wooden buildings during the 1930s. The present main building was begun in 1948 as a junior school with an age range between 5 and 11 years for 500 pupils. The authority restructured its age range to 3 to 8 years in 1991. The nursery wing and classrooms were completed during the following year, followed by another two wings, one in the late 1990s, another at the beginning of the millennium. In September 2003 the school became a full primary school.
